A group of archaeologists from the Southern Regional Academy of Science under the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, chaired by master Dang Ngoc Kinh, in collaboration with archaeologists of Showa Women's Unirersity University Japan, organized excavated on an area of about 300m2 in the garden of Mr. Nguyen Quang Thien in Vien Thanh village, Trung Dong village, Duy Trung commune, Duy Xuyen district, Quang Nam.
After more than 16 days, through excavation pits, scientists have discovered a piece of ancient citadel built deep underground for tens of thousands of years with many valuable archaeological artifacts, revealing secrets. Hidden buried deep underground for decades.

According to the seniors living in the Middle East village, Duy Trung commune, Duy Xuyen district, this is the ancient citadel of the Cham Pa people who built a long time surrounding the ancient capital of Sinhapura of the ancient Kingdom of Champa.

Through measurements, the surface of the brick wall was 1.5 - 1.6m wide. These two brick walls run parallel to each other, in the middle of the edge of the city is a compacted clay about 2.2 meters wide.
What surprised the scientists was that the two-sided exterior was covered with clay. Each side has a width of about 2m.

The excavation process, scientists have found many pieces of tile and broken bricks. The city wall is still intact. Especially in the process of searching in excavation pits, scientists have discovered a kendi (water pitcher with a tap for ritual) has broken.

Compared to the ancient citadel excavated earlier, scientists made the comment: This is an ancient citadel with a clear brick structure with 2 layers of bricks on both sides.
After excavating and discovering many artifacts, the scientists refer to the historical documents that made the initial comment that the city surrounds the capital of Sinhapura of the Kingdom of Champa. Now is Tra Kieu. This ancient citadel was built around the 4th century.
It is expected that the excavation of this ancient citadel will end on March 10. After that there will be a scientific report after excavation at Quang Nam Provincial Museum.
This can confirm that the oldest citadel was discovered in Duy Xuyen, Quang Nam. Interestingly, this ancient citadel was built of bricks and clay deep underground and still exists to this day despite experiencing many ups and downs of history and devastating war. .
