Nature conservation groups said yesterday they have just discovered a new polychrome bird in the Andean, Colombian jungles.
The bird has a bright yellow coat, a black back, on its head is a red ' crown ', and the wings of white particles are identified as Yariguies finches.
For nature conservationists, this finding is quite important, at a time when the Colombian government decided to use 200 hectares of primary forest - where the birds live - to open a national park. Scientist Camila Gomez of ProAves conservation group said there are still many undiscovered flora and fauna populations in the area.
According to scientist Thomas Donegan, there are about 2-3 new species of birds discovered in the world every year, and the discovery of Yariguies finches is a rare event. More specifically, this is the first time scientists have discovered a new bird without killing them. Usually scientists will catch new birds, take pictures and take DNA samples and then release them; Some peace birds return to nature, but up to half of these birds die in custody.
