At a press conference announced on June 5, the team said they found the base of the royal family dating back 700 years to the bottom of an excavation area located between the Forbidden City. The complex in the Forbidden City was built between 1406 and 1420, was the imperial palace of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and later the Qing Dynasty until 1912.

Archaeologists began conducting a series of excavations at the compound in 2014 in the hope of better understanding the history of the building. One of the excavation sites has 4 foundations, including the foundation of the Thanh house at the top, followed by the foundation at the end and the beginning of the Ming Dynasty, the foundation of Nguyen Dynasty is at the end.

According to Li Ji, the archaeological director at the museum, the Ming builders smashed all the palaces of the Ming Dynasty in the area before starting to build the Forbidden City. Other nearby discoveries include the queen's garden ruins and the Qing Dynasty burial site.
