Discovered the ancient frog that used to eat dinosaur meat

Scientists yesterday announced the discovery of a large amphibian species that lives in northwest Madagascar about 65-70 million years ago. The creature is called the " demon frog " and may have eaten new born dinosaurs.

This demon is bigger than any frog alive today and may be the largest frog ever existed on earth. It was named Beelzebufo ampinga , in which Beelzebub is Greek for evil and bufo in Latin for frog. Ampinga means shield, referring to the crust as the creature's armor.

The frog is 40 cm long and weighs about 4.5 kg. It has a very solid body and an extraordinarily wide mouth with extremely strong jaws. It is also very voracious. Meanwhile, the largest frog today living in West Africa is only about 32 cm long and weighs 3.3 kg.

" With its size, it's no wonder Beelzebufo cups small lizards and toads, including newly born dinosaurs ," paleontologist David Krause at Stony Brook University in New York. , USA, said.

Although living apart from each other, Beelzebufo appears to have close relatives with the frogs now living in South America. South American creatures also have the name " Pac-Man " because of their big mouth. Some have small horns on their heads, so many scientists think that Beelzebufo also had horns.

The arrival of Beelzebufo in Madagascar and its modern relatives in South America is a sign that there was once a piece of land connecting Madagascar to Antarctica and South America.

Beelzebufo lived in the Cretaceous, the last phase of the dinosaurs and was extinct along with many other animals about 65 million years ago. They do not live completely under water but live half dry and half dry. Their prey is similar to modern relatives - disguising and jumping to grab prey.
