Discovered new tree frog species in the Central Highlands

Scientists have announced a new species of tree frog found in Lam Dong and Khanh Hoa.

Picture 1 of Discovered new tree frog species in the Central Highlands The new species belongs to the small tree frog genus, which has the scientific name Kurxalus viridescens Nguyen, Matsui, and Duc, 2014. The name of the species is based on morphological characteristics outside and in Latin, meaning "small tree frog back green".

The research team of Vietnam and Japan found a standard sample of new species in Hon Ba Nature Reserve, Khanh Hoa and in Bi Doup National Park - Nui Ba, Lam Dong.

According to information from the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, the newly discovered species is of medium size, their dorsal surface is green, and the belly of the yellow is not developed.

The above findings raised the total number of tree frog species recorded in Vietnam to 63 species belonging to 11 varieties.
