District school girls invent electromagnetic brakes

Living in mountainous areas with rugged terrain, witnessing many serious traffic accidents due to braking incidents, Nguyen Viet Trinh schoolgirl (student of grade 11A3, Krong No high school, Krong No and Dak Nong districts) inventive electromagnetic brakes to limit the loss of braking every time you pass a pass.

Electromagnetic brake model of Viet Trinh won the third prize of provincial patent contest, won three creative contests for the 12th national youth and children in 2016. Trinh said, had witnessed and heard a lot The traffic accident due to the loss of brakes caused serious consequences, so after learning about the Fu-she line (Foucault), Trinh came up with the idea of applying the knowledge learned to real life and starting to study about electromagnetic brake. The electromagnetic brake model is being used as an auxiliary brake for current cars (mainly produced by foreign countries) with a large size and weight, making it difficult to design the installation position on cars.

To overcome this disadvantage, Trinh read many documents and was told that to reduce the speed of movement of a mechanical part, friction was used between a stationary part and moving parts ( types of brakes equipped on current cars and motorcycles. However, the hot friction force quickly damages friction parts together.

To avoid this, Trinh tried to use electromagnetic force instead of friction by replacing the moving coils in the magnetic field with a thick and thick metal disk. At that time, the Fu-she current generated in the metal disk will be much larger than in the coils, resulting in a more compact size that ensures the braking effect. On the other hand, the details of rotation here are solid, solid metal plates, so the centrifugal force cannot separate the parts of the disc, so the phenomenon of collision and damage cause little damage and fire.

The idea of implementing Trinh's electromagnetic brake model was quickly supported by teachers, friends and family. Trinh excitedly started working on February 2015 and completed it within 2 months."The process of making, I have the most difficulty in finding materials because in Dak Nong there is no professional workshop and mechanical equipment. I have to go to many waste collection points, mechanical shops to buy some things a little. After that, I failed to do the processing for the size of the model, many times failed to install, but thanks to the encouragement and guidance of Mr. Pham Minh Ha (Physics teacher), I succeeded. The total cost is about 15 million VND, this amount is supported by the school , " Trinh said.

Wide applicability

Mr. Pham Minh Ha, a direct teacher instructing Trinh, said that Trinh is a smart student, always looking for new knowledge and then applying it in accordance with the practical conditions where he lives. Typically, the invention of electromagnetic brakes is highly appreciated for overcoming the problems of electromagnetic brakes before.

Master Tran Quoc Lam, Deputy Head of the Department of Physics at Tay Nguyen University, judged that, as a Grade 11 student, there were many difficulties in the district but Trinh invented a very effective, practical and remarkable model. receive and encourage. Because the application of theory into practice makes products not easy, requires meticulousness and requires mechanical engineering.

Previously, electromagnetic brakes in all kinds of cars were applied abroad, but Vietnam almost exclusively used in vehicles with large tonnage, the rest mainly used brake pads. Viet Trinh's model can be installed for agricultural vehicles, plows in mountainous areas, where the terrain is steeply dangerous . to increase safety. This is also a model for teachers to teach effectively, a useful tool to help students acquire knowledge in a visual way.
