Does vehicle speed affect vehicle emissions?

All cars have the ideal speed range for minimum fuel consumption, but this speed range for each vehicle varies, depending on the design and time spent.

All cars have the ideal speed range for minimum fuel consumption, but this speed range for each vehicle varies, depending on the design and time spent.

Basically, the ideal speed of the car is illustrated in the chart below. From 80km or more, the car will consume more fuel, partly due to increased resistance to air.

Picture 1 of Does vehicle speed affect vehicle emissions?

Fuel consumption varies when the vehicle runs at different average speeds on a journey. Between the two red lines is the optimal speed to save fuel.

But speed is only one factor . No matter which vehicle you use, you can reduce fuel consumption, which means reducing emissions by driving smoothly.

That is to foresee the corners and avoid sharp braking, lift your foot off the accelerator just before reaching the highest point of a slope, remove the shelving on the roof of the car or the three front shock absorbers and unnecessary heavy objects in Lighter parking garage and reduced aerodynamic drag.

Drive wisely

Researchers in New Zealand have conducted tests for vehicles running on real terrain to how the vehicle fuel consumption with each driver's habits.

Each vehicle must arrive at a different destination with different specified times. They found that when traveling at a speed of 60-70km / h in a straight line where 100km / h is allowed, it is not an ideal choice to save fuel.

The best average speed for both professional drivers and moderately experienced drivers is about 80km / h. The key to saving fuel is to drive reasonably smoothly.

A diesel car emits about 2.7kg CO 2 / liter of oil and a gasoline car emits about 2.3kg CO 2 / liter of gasoline. Using biofuels instead of oil and gasoline can reduce emissions by up to 90% / km if the biofuel is made from animal fat from professional slaughterhouses. The amount of emissions from the use of biofuels also depends on the raw materials that produce the fuels that are sugarcane, wheat or grape seeds.

Regardless of the car, the driver can save fuel by 15-20% just need to know how to drive appropriately, saving fuel, reducing emissions into the environment and saving costs.

Efficiency of fuel consumption

When you intend to change cars, consider the fuel efficiency. This is also a way to save fuel costs and reduce emissions.

Many countries like the US, Japan, China and the European Union have had fuel efficiency standards for more than 10 years. Therefore, manufacturers have to design cars that are more and more fuel efficient. Most light vehicles sold globally must meet these standards.

Fuel prices generally tend to increase, but we can still save this cost by training ourselves with the right skills and driving habits.
