'Door to hell' in Turkmenistan

In the midst of Turkmenistan's Karakum desert, a huge hole has been burning for more than 40 years, and there is no sign that it will soon die.

At first glance, it is easy to associate 'it' as a scene in a sci-fi Hollywood movie.

However, the giant pit in the center of the Karakum Desert is not a remnant of an alien attack that hit Earth.

The pit is the work of Soviet geologists more than 40 years ago, and the forest of fire within it has never been shut down since then.

Soviet experts drilled and dug the area in 1971, and reached a large cave filled with natural gas, according to the Daily Mail.

However, unfortunately the ground below the excavated section collapsed, creating a giant hole with a diameter of 70m.

Concerned that this hole will lead to toxic gas leaks, experts decided to burn it. As a result, the gas below is too abundant, causing the fire in the hole to keep burning off.

The President of this country, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, ordered a hole two years ago, but it seems that the "closure of hell" is still not in place.
