According to The Guardian on October 19, the church was built by Spanish colonists in 1564 and called the Santiago Temple, or Quechula Temple . This building has no roof, longer than 60m, about 10m high.

Local architect Carlos Navarrete told ITV it was abandoned since the 16th century due to the "major epidemic in 1773-1776".

The church then submerged in the water when a dam was built, turning the area around the reservoir. In 1966, the water level was low so people saw the church for a short time. By 2002, the water level was sometimes so low that local people could walk inside the church.

"People celebrate. They go there to eat, play, do business . They did the procession around the church," local fisherman Leonel Mendoza told the AP.

And now, due to drought, the church "re-exported" . The Independent said when he heard the news, visitors from the places had come, asking local fishermen to take a tour of the church. They explore around the church, climbing up its walls .

Now it is being visited by tourists.

According to architect Carlos Navarrete, the Spaniards initially built the church with the desire to turn the area into a large population center, but this was not possible.
