Earthquake caused tsunamis in Central America

A strong earthquake rocked off the coast of El Salvador in the Pacific Ocean, causing tsunamis in Central America, but no damage information is yet available.

AFP quoted the announcement of the US Geological Survey (USGS) that the earthquake occurred at 22:37 on July 26 at local time (4:37 am GMT in the morning), with an intensity of up to 7.3 degrees Richter. The epicenter is located about 111km south of Puerto El Triunfo city of El Salvador.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC) later warned that seismic occurrence at a depth of 54km caused a tsunami. USGS also confirmed that the earthquake followed a tsunami.

"The device for measuring the wave level recorded by a tsunami has occurred," the PTWC said, pointing out that the tsunami threatens the whole of Central America and Mexico, "potentially destroying the region's coasts. ".

According to PTWC, some areas in Costa Rica, Nicaragua and El Salvador will be the places facing the first tsunami risk."The regional government needs to take appropriate action to deal with this risk," the center warned.

However, officials in the US have just canceled a tsunami warning in Central America and Mexico. There are no reports of casualties or property damage yet.
