Earthquake in Lam Dong is hard to earthquake

From April 29 to now, there has been a phenomenon of soil cracking with the crack of about 200m long, the width of the crack in the area up to 5cm.

On 3/5, exchanging with Dat Viet newspaper, Dr. Do Van Linh, deputy head of the Southern Geological Mapping Division, said that soil cracking in this location is related to Bao Lam - Tam fault. The Hiep has shown activity again. Bao Lam - Tam Hiep fault is a perpendicular fault with two large fault zones Da Nhim - Bien Hoa and Tuy Hoa - Bien Hoa.

These are the two largest faults going through Lam Dong province and the biggest earthquake risk is 5.5 Richter. However, due to underground pressures released through earth cracking, earthquakes are almost impossible , but additional monitoring is still needed.

Previously, in 2002, in Hiep An commune, Duc Trong district, Lam Dong province (about 60 km away from the soil crack point in Di Linh), there was also a phenomenon of soil cracking and then again in 2005 . The width of the fissure in this area is 25cm, not only the houses of the villagers in the village but also the construction of a primary school in the area. According to the scenario in Hiep An commune, cracking of soil that is happening in Di Linh can also happen.

In addition to physical damage, causing confusion for people, the water table may change in the future. Not only did Hiep An earlier and now is Di Linh town, but many areas of Lam Dong province could also occur soil cracking. In order to better understand the operation cycle and predict the above phenomenon, there is a need to invest in further research.

Dr. Do Van Linh currently has a research topic 'Geological hazards in areas with risk of soil cracking, landslides and flash floods in Lam Dong province '.
