Recently, the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) and the leading Japanese pump manufacturer Ebara organized a flood prevention training course called 'Flood control pump technology'. Bangkok (Thailand) from November 29 to December 4, attracting many experts and engineers from the host country of Thailand as well as Vietnam, India, Sri Lanka and the Philippines.
The course was organized by AIT and Ebara in Thailand.
Many useful and practical initiatives and experiences have been shared, in order to improve the capacity to cope with natural disasters, especially in the context of frequent flooding in South Asia and Southeast Asia.
At the course, Ebara engineers presented experiments in the process of dealing with a record flood in Thailand last year. At that time, Ebara mobilized 1,800mm vertical pumps, contributing to reducing water flow in the most heavily affected areas in the Thai capital.
Thai experts appreciate the technologies that Ebara introduced in the course, as well as in practical applications. With 100 years of experience (just 100 years old in November 2012), Ebara is looking forward to contributing to the disaster response efforts of countries, when climate change makes the weather more and more become abnormal.
In 1989, Ebara established the Ebara Hatakeyama Memorial Fund (EHMF) to promote cooperation between Southeast Asian countries in cooperation and sharing of technology to cope with natural disasters. Ebara has organized more than 230 similar courses in many countries, with the number of specialists and engineers taking up more than 10,000 people.
In the past year, Ebara Vietnam has also started to develop pumps production and sales to supply the domestic market as well as Southeast Asia.
