The Egyptian government has just decided to build the world's largest museum, keeping the oldest and most beautiful antiquities in human history. This will also be a unique modern archaeological center.

The Great Egyptian Museum is located on an area of ​​over 50 hectares, opposite the remaining wonders of the world: the pyramids of Giza. If this project is completed, it will break all the estimated tourist attraction records of up to 8 million people / year. More than 100,000 artifacts are transferred from all over the world: an intact temple, King Tutankhamon's famous treasure and many ultra-modern equipment, gardens, bookstores, shops, luxury restaurants .

Project manager Mohamed Ghoneim said that of the total of 550 million USD needed for the project, 300 million was accepted by Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JICA) for 30 years. This is Japan's largest loan in the Middle East. The Supreme Council for Egyptian Antiquities is responsible for $ 100 million, the rest will be handed over to Nora Ebeid, the managing director of the museum's finance and management, through mobilizing donations from banks and agencies. mandarins and benefactors all over the world.

On February 4, 2002, President Hosni Mubarak laid the first brick, but the construction of the museum actually began in April 2008. Great Egyptian Museum was the idea that was born 15 years ago by the Minister of Culture Farouq Hosnin, when he visited the French capital of Paris and was immediately welcomed by the Egyptian leader. In 1992, the President of the country issued a decree to formalize the project.

In 1999, Egypt invited Italian experts to study feasibility and in 2002, the museum architecture design competition was organized under the auspices of the United Nations Educational Science and Cultural Organization ( UNESCO). On June 8, 2003, the first prize worth $ 250,000 was awarded to the first lady Suzanne Mubarak to architect Peng Shifu, 37, Chinese nationals of Irish nationality.

Peng Shifu's unique work on the façade of the museum is designed " sparkling " thanks to a wall of 800m long, 40m high with precious stones, next to the translucent terracotta rocks bearing the typical style of art. Public South Egypt. Construction experts had to travel to Spain, Turkey, Iran, and Italy to collect rock samples to test their resistance to abrasion.

In addition to aesthetics, security issues are also very interesting in the country that always faces many attacks on tourist resorts. The Egyptian government decided that the main gate of the museum must be at least 80 meters away from the highway, to avoid suicide bombings with cars with bombs installed.

The biggest challenge lies in the campaign to repatriate 100,000 artifacts. Professor Yasser Mansour said that this is the biggest transport of antiquities in human history. Great Egyptian Museum officially opened in 2011.
