Energy-rich foods help reduce animal waste

Austrian scientists have recently published the results of a study on the diet of cattle, whereby livestock that are raised with a high-energy diet tend to be more environmentally friendly and more productive. .

The International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA), where the study is conducted, believes that if farmers switch to a high-energy diet for livestock, global food supplies can improve.

According to the study, the agricultural sector currently accounts for about 12% of global greenhouse gas emissions, part of which is methane gas from animal waste discharged into the environment.

However, IIASA believes that these wastes can be reduced by up to 25% by 2030 if the grass-only diet of cattle is converted into a regime that includes energy-rich foods like corn and bran, silage feed .

In addition to the positive environmental benefits, cows, sheep and goats also grow faster and produce more milk when fed more energy-rich foods. At that time, these animals can be grazed in small grasslands, the cost of breeding will be reduced, and safety will increase.
