Every people a .eu domain name?

With the opening of the regulatory door, allowing all European citizens to have the right to attach .eu to their domain name, the EU predicts that the number of applications sent will be "like a tsunami".

Four months after public agencies were allowed to bid for the .eu address and two months after European businesses, from next Friday, any EU member could set up a website with domain name ends with .eu.

" No one knows exactly how many new domain name registrants will be, but it certainly is not small. I guess there will be a few hundred thousand new owners of the .eu domain full of pride and pride. from next Friday , "said Marcvan Wesemael, EURid director.

However, the .eu extension does not intend to completely replace the national domain name that the EU member states are using, such as .uk of England, .fr of France or .de of Germany, and even more so. Replace more popular domain names like .com and .org.

Since January, about 335,000 institutes and enterprises have applied for the .eu domain name for their website or email address. The funny thing is that the domain name "hit" the most is "sex.eu", followed by money-making businesses such as "realestate.eu" real estate and "hotel.eu" hotel.

Obviously, not all permission applications are accepted. So far, only about 52,000 applications have been approved, 180,000 are still on the study and about 100,000 applications have been rejected for various reasons.

Germans are the most "bloody" people, accounting for 28.6% of the total applications. Other countries are more cautious, such as the Netherlands 16.6% and France 11%.

The European Commission hopes that by the end of this year there will be several million .eu domain names in use. "The great interest for .eu affirms the appeal of this domain and ensures it will be a great success," said a committee spokesman.

While licensing procedures for public administration and enterprises are somewhat complicated, EURid affirmed that this time the process will be more open and simple. All individuals can apply at more than 1500 registration centers, then information will be submitted to EURid. The only condition is that the applicant must prove his or her European nationality. Registration rates are not too expensive, from 12 to 100 euros depending on the country.
