Information from Microsoft 's security warning bulletin released yesterday said a new security vulnerability was discovered in the way IE handles long web addresses. This error can be exploited by tricking users into accessing a programmed website for the purpose of attack.

' If you successfully exploit this security vulnerability, the attacker can remotely take over the entire control of the system ,' Microsoft said. 'We have not recorded any attacks by taking advantage of this newly discovered security error .'

Microsoft released the security update MS06-042 along with the August 8 security update. This update is intended to fix 8 critical security bugs in Internet Explorer. However, the update also caused some problems for the application and Microsoft had to re-release the bug fix.

One of the problems that caused the browser to crash has helped Microsoft discover a new buffer overflow error in the Windows operating system.

Because of this, Microsoft decided not to re-release security updates to investigate further issues.

Must face the risk of being attacked through a new security error is the user of Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 whether they have installed or not to install the update MS06-042.

Microsoft recommends that users should still install the update but disable the browser's Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) v1.1 feature. Users of other IE versions that are not affected by the new security bug are discovered.
