Fossil tyrant long nose dinosaur like 'Pinocchio'

The dinosaur with the long nose Pinocchio rex is arguably the most feared predator in Asia in the Cretaceous period.

Until now, many believed that the tyrant dinosaurs consisted of a single species, Tyrannosaurus rex (T-rex), who lived in the late Cretaceous period in the North American continent. Recently, however, scientists have discovered one of their relatives in Ganzhou, Jiangxi Province, China.

The new dinosaur simulated from the archaeological fossil possesses a fairly long nose, hence the nickname Pinocchio rex. Despite having a rather amusing appearance, Pinocchio rex is claimed to have a level of danger and no less damage to the famous tyrant dinosaur T-rex.

Living in the late Cretaceous, about 66 million years ago, Pinocchio rex is thought to be the most feared predator in Asia at the time, similar to his American brother.

The leading experts from the University of Edinburgh and the Chinese Academy of Sciences went on to find the origin of this Pinocchio rex fossil bone. Accordingly, Pinocchio rex has a long, narrow, long skull that is quite different from the thick and strong teeth of the T-rex tyrant dinosaur. Due to being found in Cam Chau, their current scientific name is Qianzhousaurus sinensis .

Scientists are completely uncertain about the existence of this long-nosed tyrant dinosaur until traces in China are discovered. Previously, two dinosaur fossils with long skulls were discovered, but they are only young, so it is difficult to determine whether this is a new dinosaur, or just a developmental stage of them.

This adult Pinocchio rex fossil set was discovered in Cam Chau recently to help experts obtain the necessary basis for research.

Many scientists believe that Pinocchio rex can live in tandem with other tyrant dinosaurs but hunt different types of prey so there is no competition. Besides, Dr. Steve Brusatte from Edinburgh University said that this is another branch of the tyrant dinosaur, with longer jaws and a lot of small horns above the nose.

Scientists continue to expand their search in Asia in hopes of finding more dinosaur fossils. Pinocchio rex's discovery is of great importance, further reinforcing the assumption that along with the Alioramus species in Mongolia, there are many other long-nosed dinosaurs scattered and even the main carnivorous dinosaur group. in Asia.
