Fruits reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes

Strawberries, oranges, peaches, plums and apricots have no significant effect on preventing type 2 diabetes. Meanwhile, blueberries, grapes, apples and grapefruit significantly reduce the likelihood of getting sick. Canned fruit juice does not replace this role well.

Using data from three major medical studies, the researchers followed the diet over a 12-year period of more than 185,000 people, including more than 12,000 patients with type 2 diabetes.

After controlling health and behavioral factors, researchers found fruits such as grapes, apples and grapefruit significantly reduced their chances of getting sick.

The champion position for preventing diabetes is blueberry (a deep purple, succulent fruit, growing in temperate regions). Eating blueberries 3-5 times, with the right amount in a month reduces the risk of type 2 diabetes by 11% to 26%. Replacing canned fruit juices for whole fresh fruit significantly increases the risk of disease.

"Regularly eating fruits, especially blueberries, apples and grapes is very important. However, that does not mean fruits like blueberries are first-class drugs that need to be made a healthy diet. Exercise regularly to keep your body healthy, " said Dr. Qi Sun, who works at Harvard University, the lead author of the study.
