Galapagos Islands - Contaminated fuel is prohibited from use

The Ecuadorian government introduced a plan to eliminate fuels that pollute the ecological environment on the Galapagos Islands from now to 2015.

The organizers said that with three systems with a capacity of 800 kWh / unit, this program allows a 50% reduction in diesel consumption in San Cristobal, the second most populous island in the Galapagos Islands.

According to José Moscoso, one of the proponents of the plan, the program will end the greenhouse gas emissions with 3,000 tons of CO2 per year in this area. In addition to the wind power program, the government also plans to adopt solar programs and bio-fuel use for activities in the Galapgos.

The Galapagos Islands, a nature reserve, has been listed as a World Heritage List by UNESCO since 1978 with the world's only marine ecosystem. Since June 2007, Galapagos has been listed as a World Heritage List in danger of being destroyed, especially due to the growth of the tourism industry. In a recent year, the Ecuadorian government has issued a state of emergency to the Galapagos Islands when restricting flights and residence permits and limiting tourism activities on the island.
