Germany checks E. coli in drinking water

So far, the O104: H4 strain (also called Husec041) has taken the lives of 42 people on German territory. Scientists have pointed out the most suspicious source of infection is the river flowing through Frankfurt that vegetable and fruit dealers have used to spray up when selling fruits and vegetables imported from Spain.

After the scandal surrounding the bacilli, Exner's Environmental Protection Department has formally asked the state to inspect all German water supplies.
