Germany is the second largest country producing and using industrial robots in the world. Robot movements must be faster and more accurate and capable of lifting heavy objects.

The University of Technology Darmstadt researchers have developed new robotic arms with joints similar to those of the human arm. These electronic robots are designed for three-axis elastic movement. The springs are operated by an electric motor that allows the stretching of the veins and muscles.
Robotic prototypes allowed for a variety of operations: the first robot planted branches, the second robot collects and stores biological samples at very low temperatures and the third robot is put into production and lifting lighter things
With funding from the University of Darmstadt in collaboration with Sarre University, TETRA and the Fraunhofer Institute for Bioengineering, the project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. The robots will be launched in the market from now to 2007.
