Heavy rains in Malaysia and southern Thailand have caused severe flooding, forcing thousands of people to leave their homes, killing dozens and affecting hundreds of thousands of households.
Amid the images of people struggling through the floods, there was one particularly shocking image that many viewers said left them 'scared to the core'. It was a video of a giant snake swimming - or floating - in floodwaters.
Here is the video:
The video was recorded in Pattani province on December 1, but was recently posted online by the Bangkok Post and has been viewed nearly 400,000 times. It has also been viewed nearly 2 million times on a natural world website.
Netizens who watched the video said they were very scared, wondering if this was a snake or some kind of monster.
'This is actually a reticulated python that has swallowed something quite large. It is upside down, which means it is either dead or exhausted,' explained an animal expert.
Some news sites later reported that the python had swallowed a dog.
