Those using Google Maps can now roam the streets of Namie town, which was evacuated after the tsunami damaged the Fukushima nuclear power plant and caused radioactive leaks two years ago.

Half of Namie town, located in an evacuation area, has a radius of 20km from the factory. All of the 21,000 residents in Namie were forced to abandon their homes due to radiation that infiltrated the air, land and water in this area.

"The world continues into the future after the disaster . But time has stopped in Namie Town " - Mayor Tamotsu Baba wrote on a blog for the Google Japan company - "I hope the images of This street will let people of the future generation know what earthquakes and nuclear leaks will bring, we need years and cooperation of many people to be able to rise after the crisis. Nuclear crisis We will never give up in an effort to regain our home town. "

The disaster of earthquakes, tsunamis and radioactive leaks has killed nearly 19,000 people and there are still many missing bodies.

Part of the town was engulfed by tsunamis on March 11. Houses and structures damaged by seawater can be seen clearly in photos on Google Maps.

But many buildings remained intact, abandoned when there was an evacuation order two years ago.

Tens of thousands of people living in the area were forced to leave their homes during the worst nuclear disaster since the 1986 Chernobyl.
