The power plant is known as an active methane tank based on anaerobic process. Anaerobic process is the process by which microorganisms affect materials from plants and animals stored in sealed containers and turn these materials into useful products. When microorganisms decompose organic waste, methane gas is produced to produce heat and energy.

This is the first bioelectric plant of the British Shank Group, which has built similar plants in the Netherlands and Canada.

The executive director of the Group, Tom Drury, said: "This plant will provide organic waste products at reasonable prices and long-term replacements for other agricultural fertilizer products."
