Heavy rains and strong winds swept across England and Wales in England, causing more than 800 houses to be flooded and 220 flood warnings issued.

The worst affected areas are Devon and Cornwall in southwest England and towns in Wiltshire and Worcestershire, AFP said. Some cars were swept away, landslides, trees fell and people had to sweep mud from the house after the water receded.

Many neighborhoods were isolated after police sealed off roads in Cornwall. There are 4 flood warnings issued here when the water level rises.

In the town of Wiltshire in Malmesbury, Tom Hudson, a resident, said the country kept hitting his door repeatedly and this was the biggest flood he had seen in the past 14 years.

"Many houses were flooded 3-4 feet (1 - 1.2 m) with furniture floating all over the room. I have been here for 14 years and had floods in 2000 and 2007 but this time much worse." , Hudson said.

"Currently, the water level has dropped much, but I still keep sandbags because it may continue to rain in the coming days , " he said.

Elsewhere, a woman died of a broken tree branch in the city of Exeter and a Cambridgeshire man died of being swept away by water.

British Prime Minister David Cameron wrote on his Twitter that the flooding scene "shocked" and promised that the government would "do everything to help people".
