Ho Chi Minh City: Wild birds die massively for unknown reasons

The phenomenon of mass death of wild birds continues to occur at Hoang Hoa Tham, Nguyen Thuong Hien, Ward 5, Phu Nhuan District, Ho Chi Minh City.

The aforementioned phenomenon has caused confusion for people living in the area for nearly a week because of information that some localities have experienced bird flu. Some dead bird carcasses have been transferred to authorities for testing.

Doctor Huynh Huu Tho, head of the Diagnostic Laboratory for Treatment (Ho Chi Minh City Veterinary Department) said that two samples taken from Hoang Hoa Tham and Nguyen Thuong Hien streets were analyzed by the station. negative for H5N1 virus.

In case of the possibility of the H5N1 virus spreading, the Preventive Medicine Team of Phu Nhuan district sprayed disinfectants and monitored the health of households living in areas with dead birds. On January 25, representatives of People's Committee of Ward 5 said they discovered 5 more dead birds and sent them to functional agencies for testing.

In the face of the mass death of wild birds, Mr. Huynh Huu Loi, Director of the Veterinary Department advised people to limit contact with wild birds. Mr. Loi also said that interdisciplinary inspection teams will strictly handle cases of buying and selling live birds.

In the previous year, a series of swallowing birds also died in mass at a location of morning glory in Binh Chanh district without reason.
