A study in the UK showed that children in families who own dogs are more active than other children.
Livescience said scientists from the University of London, UK, tracked the level of activity of 2,065 children in 78 schools in the cities of London, Birmingham and Leicester in a week. All children are 9-10 years old and 202 of them own dogs.
The results showed that the average physical activity time of dogs with children was 325 minutes - 11 minutes more than children without dogs . The average passive sitting time of children with dogs during the day is 562 minutes - 11 minutes less than children without dogs. Children with dogs also perform more than 360 steps a day compared to the other children.
' The question is whether raising dogs makes children more active or active families tend to raise dogs? We need long-term research to find the answer , 'said Christopher Owen, an epidemiologist, who is an expert in epidemiology.
According to Owen, many previous studies show that after raising dogs, people spend more time on physical activity.
