How to overcome fear most effectively

Scientists claim that the effective way to overcome fear is . talking about that fear itself.

According to Daily Mail, psychologists at the University of California, Los Angeles conducted research on the horrors of human spiders. They ask 88 people who are afraid of spider to come and find a way to approach a Tarantula spider in a container.

Participants have to walk near the spider, and finally try to touch it if they can. The objects are divided into four groups.

The first group was asked to describe the emotions they had experienced with the Tarantula spider, for example: 'I was scared and worried about seeing that scary spider'.

The second group continues to be asked to describe their feelings, but with more neutral words, such as: 'That little spider can't harm me, I'm not afraid of it.'

The third group was asked to share something that did not involve them having to go near the Tarantula spider. The fourth group doesn't need to say anything - they just need to try contacting the spider.

A week later, 88 participants proceeded to contact the Tarantula spider again in the outdoor environment and touched it with a finger.

Researchers observe objects, see how they react when they touch a spider, especially if their hands are sweating heavily (this is one of the signs that shows fear).

The results showed that people in the first group were more likely to be in close contact with Tarantula spiders than the other groups. Their hands are also less sweaty than other groups.

This is an important and thoughtful result for methods that help people overcome fear.

In the past, psychologists used to tell their patients sentences with neutral descriptions, and insisted that 'I am not afraid of it' , but this method does not seem to have achieved much effect.

Professor of psychology Matthew Lieberman, co-author of this study, said that accurately describing your emotions during stressful times is likely to help us face the same fear, and overcome. through it better.
