How to register organ donors when they die?

Two addresses for registration and issuance of organ donation cards in Vietnam are Viet Duc Hospital (Hanoi) and Cho Ray (HCMC).

According to the law, people 18 years of age or older, with full civil act capacity, unlimited gender and belief, have the right to donate their tissues and organs when they are alive or after death, brain death and cadaver donation.

The law does not require parental consent in the donation application. However, the family's consent is encouraged because if the family organ donor registration is not known, it will be difficult to inform the health facility. This also avoids the family's objections so that those who want to donate cannot fulfill their will.

A brain dead person can save more than 10 others. Currently, our country has tens of thousands of people who are in need of tissue transplantation, life-sustaining organs, but not yet able to perform because there is not enough tissue and organs to transplant. Since 2006, the country has more than 1,000 people with tissue and organ transplantation. In which the source of tissue, organs mainly from living people, relatives donate a kidney, a part of the liver. Sources of organs from people for brain death are few.

There are now two official addresses that are allowed to register and issue organ donation cards in Vietnam to meet the aspiration to register to donate to save people when they die:

  1. The National Coordination Center for Human Organ Transplants, located on the 2nd floor, Viet Duc's C2 and B Hospital . Address 40 Trang Thi, Hoan Kiem, Hanoi. Phone: 0915.060.550 or 024.393.866.932.
  2. Unit for coordination of human organs, Cho Ray Hospital . Address 201B Nguyen Chi Thanh, District 5, HCMC. Can go directly at registration at the hospital office hours. You can contact us by phone to receive instructions on how to submit a tissue and organ donation application in the mail. Contact phone number 0283.855.4137 (call 1184) or 0283.956.0139; 0913677016 (24/24 hours).

If you register via email or fan donation coordinator's fanpage, you fill out the application form for voluntary donation of tissues and organs after your death. Scan or take a completed application form, attach a 3x4 photo (affixed to the application or leave it) and send it to the Coordinating Unit for transplanting the organs of the Cho Ray hospital, email dieuphoigheptangbvcr@gmail.com or Texting on the fanpage of the unit. Write a specific address where you want to receive an organ donor registration card.

Registration for organ donation is free. All the costs of testing before taking organs are borne by the medical establishment.
