Things to know about 4G networks
The growing telecommunications service is followed by the increasing demand for mobile data access speed by users. Recently, 4G networks have been widely deployed to subscribers. Some networks like Viettel and Mobifone have supported users to register for free 4G sim, convert from 2G sim, 3G to 4G sim. So what is 4G network? What is it different from the previous generation and what conditions to use 4G network? Join the Network Administrator to learn about the latest 4G network generation in the article below.
1. What is 4G network?
Just like the 2G, 3G, 4G terms are abbreviated from Fourth-Generation , the fourth generation wireless transmission technology . 4G supports data transmission with a maximum speed of 1 to 1.5 GB / sec, under ideal conditions. And this speed is much higher than 2G and 3G.
From maximizing transmission speed, 4G network is ideal for users to perform video conferencing, television with high definition, speed browsing or even IP phones (VoIP).
2. What is the maximum 4G network speed?
As mentioned, 4G data transfer rate is higher than 3G. The speed of 3G when users download is 14 Mbps and upload is 5.8 Mbps. As for 4G, mobile users will be 100 Mbps and 1 Gbps for fixed users.

1. LTE Category (LTE CAT 3)
The download speed is 100 Mbps (100 Megabits per second): The actual transfer rate is 12.5 MB / s which is equivalent to downloading 1 movie of 1 GB capacity and 82 seconds time.
The upload speed is 50 Mbps (50 Megabits per second): The actual transfer rate is 6.25 MB / s which is equivalent to downloading a 1 GB file online for 163.84 seconds.
2. LTE Category 4 (LTE CAT 4)
Download speed is 150 Mbps (150 Megabits per second): Transfer rate is 18.75 MB / s which can download a 1 GB file with 54.6 seconds time.
Upload speed is 50 Mbps (50 Megabits per second): Transfer rate is 6.25 MB / s which can download 1 1 GB file online for 163.84 seconds.
3. LTE Category 5 (LTE CAT 5)
Download speed of 300 Mbps (300 Megabits / sec): Transfer rate is 37.5 MB / s, download 1 movie of 1 GB in 27 seconds.
Upload speed is 75 Mbps (75 Megabits / sec): There is an actual speed of 9.375 MB / s uploaded to 1 GB with a duration of 109 seconds.
4. LTE Category 6 (LTE CAT 6)
Download speed of 300 Mbps: The equivalent of the speed of LTE CAT 5 has a transfer rate of 35.5 MB / s. Upload speed is 50Mbps: Equivalent to Cat 4 is 6.25 MB per second.
5. LTE Category 7 (LTE CAT 7)
Download speed of 300 Mbps: The equivalent of the speed of LTE CAT 5 has a transfer rate of 37.5 MB / s.
Upload speed 150 Mbps: faster than CAT 6 with transfer rate of 18.75 Megabytes per second. Upload a 1 GB video to Youtube in just 55 seconds.
However, this speed depends on many factors such as transmission lines, waves, and networks.
4. Conditions for using 4G network?
To be able to register for 4G network, we first need to make sure the device you are using supports 4G and high-speed network support. So how do I know my device can use 4G network? We can check device information to check if the smartphone you are using is registered for 4G.
5. Note when registering 4G of Viettel
- The device in use must support 4G
- Subscribers must be on prepaid network, operating in two directions and have a activation time of 60 days or more (up to 00:00 on December 27, 2016)
- After switching Viettel's 4G sim will be a white sim, you need to save the contacts and necessary messages before bringing the sim to exchange.
- Sim 4G supports both 3G and 2G networks so it can be used normally
6. Procedure when changing 4G sim
Currently, Viettel is free to exchange 4G sim nationwide from December 27, 2016 to February 28, 2017. You can go to the nearest Viettel transaction point, bring your current sim card and identity card to exchange 4G sim. Viettel does not solve cases of exchanging sim households.
