After the Second World War, the beautiful coastal city Zadar (Croatia) became deserted. In the following years, many boundary markers were rebuilt in the form of simple, rough concrete blocks, the scenery there was still nothing outstanding.

In an effort to restore the old aura of the coastal region of Zadar, local officials suspended the prize for architect Nikola Bašić, who was inspired by an instrument that appeared in ancient Greece operated by thrust. of the air, created the Sea Organ giant .

Sea Organ made from 7 steps of marble slabs, below these levels, 35 plots are arranged. Each tube is a gas column, has a different length and diameter, is fitted with a horn inside so the air when it comes in, will perform 7 bass notes. The sound resonates with each other to create a special harmony - the work of the wind and the waves.

The Sea Organ sound is often referred to as a hypnotic sound with varying sounds according to weather conditions and the movement of boats. In the stormy days, the giant Organ tree chanted a fierce, majestic tone. In those days when the sea is calm and peaceful, when visiting the Zadar coast, we will be immersed in a melodious and peaceful music.

The giant instrument inaugurated in April 2005 has become one of Croatia's most popular tourist attractions. Thanks to its unique feature, in 2006, Sea Organ was awarded the European Award in the category of Public Urban Space.
