Vietnam's sovereignty milestones in the South China Sea
Hon Hai is also known as Hon Kham (point A6 of the territorial sea of Vietnam), is a giant rock bearing a comedy in the South China Sea, named on the international map called Poulo Sapate.Hon Hai Island is about 65 km from Phu Quy main island (Binh Thuan), with a length of about 130 m, the widest width of about 60 m, the highest point is 113 m from the sea surface.
In the past, fishermen around the region often spoke of each other about a giant block of rock between the sea, arid, without fresh water, trees, and the habitat of thousands of terns, gulls and pelicans.During the breeding season, the island surface is full of bird eggs, and the island will be covered with a strange white color created by bird droppings.
Realizing this is a place with a critical position as well as very dangerous if there is no safety warning light system, since 1999, the Ministry of Defense approved the construction plan of the lighthouse on the island.Through the survey, the military force assessed Hon Hai as an extremely difficult and dangerous area, surrounded by waves of up to tens of meters and many reefs. In addition, the weather here is very harsh when the sea lasts for months.Once the survey team came to the island but did not access the boat and had to return to the mainland.
Hon Hai has a very complex topographical and geological structure, steep island cliffs higher than 100 m often with falling rocks, landslides, many short walls and reefs. After only the first 20 days of construction, there were sacrifices, hundreds of tons of waves were swept into the sea. After much effort until the end of 2004, the island's infrastructure was completed.
A system of great buildings was completed, including a permanent building at the foot of the island with an area of nearly 300 m2, a dock of 380 m2, a system of mooring buoys and a wharf of 423 m2.
One of the special buildings here is a 170-meter-long tunnel system with 4 doors to the island. The tunnel is reinforced with reinforced concrete against falling rock, aftershock. The tunnel door is located on the back of the building and extends to the island surface with 370 steps.
From the mouth of the tunnel to the island surface, there is a system of 240 terraces that are fortified with concrete to connect to the Hon Hai Lighthouse.
The independent Hon Hai lighthouse helps ships operate offshore Binh Thuan province to orient and determine their position. The range of daytime geographical identification is 26.5 nautical miles, the night light range is 24.5 nautical miles.
The lighthouse placed at the highest point of the island is 113 m.Height from the foot to the top of the lamp is 10.4 m.
The solar light system ensures continuous lighting.Besides, Viettel's signal system shortens the distance between the island and the mainland.
Currently, Hon Hai lighthouse is managed by Southern Central Maritime Safety Assurance Company under the Southern Maritime Safety Assurance Corporation.Mr. Le Ngoc Nam - Sea Magazine reporter shared: "The establishment and maintenance of lighthouses is a humanitarian mission, showing the obligations and sovereignty rights of countries with the sea, helping seafarers to identify position and direction on the sea to establish a safe maritime environment, promote the development of Vietnam's marine economy ".
Besides the important meaning of geographical location, territory, territorial sea, Hon Hai is also a land of goodness with tens of thousands of birds including 5 species to live.
Because the island surface is rock, it absorbs heat and keeps heat well. This is also a favorable environment for birds that do not hatch eggs like terns.Every year, in June and July, the terns come back, crowded and shouted all over the sky.
Over time the island surface was eroded due to the waves and the weather created shapes full of fantasy and impression.
Depending on the angle of the ship when going to sea, Hon Hai has many different interesting shapes. The position looks like a round stone shape.
Previously, fishermen often referred to Hon Hai as Hon Hai because it was shaped like a comedy lying on the sea.
On quiet and calm sea days, Hon Hai appears uprightly between heaven and sea. This is one of many milestones of Vietnam's sovereign sovereignty.
