The sense of smell still works even when we sleep

While the study subjects slept, the team created different sounds, followed by certain smells.

The study subjects inhaled more deeply when they smelled pleasant and shallow breathing when they smelled an unpleasant odor.

Next, the subjects heard the sounds without the smell.

Scientists found that subjects still had a deeper or shallow inhalation reaction when only hearing the sounds. This happens the same even when the subject is awake.

"When we sleep, we can do more than we still think," says Arzi .

Commenting on the study, Donald Wilson from the Langone Medical Center, New York University at Orangburg (USA), a scientist who did not participate in the research group, said: 'This shows the system of hives The senses still work even when we sleep. '

Research can be used to help regulate breathing in patients with breathing disorders such as sleep apnea.

Research published in Nature Neuroscience.
