IE7 reports web security by
At the beginning of January 2007, the latest Internet Explorer browser will be green in the address line of banking and e-commerce sites to signal access security. Microsoft hopes this method will help improve phishing status.
Claudia Race has just opened an online store and wants visitors to be assured of their website. She is thinking of a registration solution to get the latest Internet Explorer green to the address bar, the network security service will be deployed next year. " I don't want anyone to question, hesitate or fear when I go to my website, " Race, owner of a small business in Texas, said. " They need to know that I didn't get the logo somewhere and paste it on the website ."
The "red" address bar warns that a website has phishing. In order to meet the "green flag" conditions, commercial websites need to go through an extensive checkout process through WebTrust service with malicious authentication requests set up called EV.
" When the service is deployed, small businesses that are not aware of the role of this blue address bar will be excluded from the game, " said Melih Abdulhayoglu, CEO of Comodo security group. " Concerns about online fraud will make customers only look for big names that have such safety measures ."
EV evaluation version will ensure the website is legitimate according to some basic steps as follows:
- Valid and validated . Through databases and other means, financial service providers or electronic gateways must determine their business is legal. Their official name must be the same as in the government list, the alternative name must also be declared.
- Real existence . Enterprises must check the government list to make sure their address is absolutely correct. When there is no correspondence, the service will ask to re-enter that address and see if the site is functioning. They also have to provide photos to prove the website's personnel are working.
- Phone number . The business must determine the phone number that has been declared as the official contact number in the business by calling directly or looking in the directory. In some cases, they must ensure that the main phone number is a fixed number, not a mobile number.
- Domain name . Service providers must check in the registration file and ask the business to confirm or modify the website according to that domain name.
This EV process will be upgraded to new versions, depending on actual developments to ensure the highest safety and require websites to report periodically.
