ILO: 2.2 million people die each year from work accidents and occupational diseases

On April 27, the International Labor Organization (ILO) said occupational accidents and illnesses arising in the course of work caused about 2.2 million deaths a year, not to mention the damage the same big for the global economy.

Estimates, this occupational accident and disease cause an annual loss of about 4% of the gross domestic product of global GDP, approximately 20 times the total global official development aid.

According to ILO Sameera Maziadi Al - Tuwaijri Work Safety Program Director, practice shows that the majority of occupational accidents are preventable. He also called on governments, employers and workers in countries to take more determined actions to combat workers' accidents and occupational diseases.

The ILO report is published in response to the "International Day of Occupational Health and Safety", also emphasizing that appropriate preventive measures will help improve employee productivity.
