India tested IPTV service
Indian media service provider Mahanagar Telephone Nigam (MTNL) has announced that it will conduct testing of Internet protocol television (IPTV) services in New Delhi and Mumbai.
According to a report published in Financial Express in New Delhi on July 31, to be able to deploy IPTV services, MTNL will have to work with firms such as STAR TV, Prasar Bharati, Zee TV, Sony. Entertainment .
Commercial IPTV service is expected to be offered in two major Indian cities with an initial enrollment of 200,000. In addition to MTNL, Bharti will also run IPTV tests in Gurgaon (near New Delhi).
India currently has no specific rules for IPTV services, although the country's specialized agency has proposed relevant amendments to the government cable TV law.
