Microsoft cooperates to provide VoIP, IPTV in Taiwan, China
Microsoft has cooperated with Chungwa Telecom to establish a joint venture to provide VoIP and IPTV services to SMEs in China and Taiwan.
The information was published by Reuters on May 22 and confirmed by Microsoft. The world's largest software company will help Chungwa (Taiwan) develop and deploy VoIP through the use of Microsoft Live Communications Server software for SMBs and business customers.
In addition, the new joint venture will allow Chungwa to link the Microsoft MSN VOIP service to its public switched voice network. Chungwa is building an IPTV service using MicrosoftTV technology, but the time to use this service has not been announced yet.
Microsoft said that Chungwa will deploy new services within the framework of an agreement between the two sides, and will be based on the next generation operating support system (NGOSS) built by Microsoft.
In the past, Chungwa and Microsoft had worked together, such as in 2001, the two companies jointly deployed "call-center" management systems, and Yellow Page support systems.
