India's gilded temple is stained with air pollution
The gilded walls of India's Golden Temple were once bright, but the perennial air pollution made them dusty and dull.
Golden Temple (Golden Temple) is located in Amritsar city, built in 1585. The temple walls of 430 years old are in need of overhaul. " Pollution makes the Golden Temple increasingly degraded. We need to do many things to protect the sacred place of this city," Tech Times quoted Gunbir Singh yesterday, head of Eco Amritsar environmental protection organization. .

Environmental activists and religious leaders began a campaign to cut down on air pollution in the city, including cooking with gas instead of charcoal inside the temple kitchen. Every day, this public kitchen prepares and serves food for free for 100,000 people.
Farmers are encouraged not to burn straw when working in the fields. Authorities also consider controlling traffic and relocating industrial parks near the temple. However, changes have been very slow and so far, pollution monitoring equipment has not been installed.
"We are paying attention to increasing pollution. We are in the process of buying equipment to check the pollution area, the level of pollution from each source on a daily schedule" , Jaswant Singh, engineer Environment in the Pollution Control Council, said.
Environmental authorities also banned the use of certain fuels for cooking in residential communities and restaurants near the Golden Temple and prohibiting burning. The city government is planning to build a power station to avoid people using diesel powered generators.
