Satellite is used to observe the movement of boats, support maritime rescue operations and survey of aquatic resources.
The satellite is equipped with an automatic identification system (AIS) to locate vessels passing through Indonesian waters and can monitor the area thousands of square kilometers; devices like cameras, digital camcorders can capture images of Earth from orbit.
Thomas also said that the movement of the satellite will be delivered to authorities in Rancabungur, Bogor province, west of Java island control.
Earlier, in 2007, Indonesia launched Lapan A1 satellite, which is still in orbit at an altitude of 630km from the Earth's surface, but it has expired since 2013.
