The International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture was adopted by the 31st session of the FAO Conference on November 3, 2001. This is an important treaty concerning the conservation and use of international and national plant genetic resources. As of June 2006, 103 countries have participated. The treaty came into effect on June 29, 2004. The objective of the Treaty is to conserve and sustainably use plant genetic resources for food and agriculture; share fair benefits from the use of genetic resources for a sustainable agriculture and food security, in harmony with the Convention on Biological Diversity.
Experts of the International Institute of Plant Genetic Resources present the main contents of the Treaty, exchange and share experiences on a number of related issues from the management perspective of some countries and international organizations. different.
