On September 1, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology put into operation a complete waste water treatment system with a capacity of 300m 3 / day.
Started construction in September 2005, this is considered a wastewater treatment system with advanced technology and suitable for the Northern region.
Japan International Aid Agency (JICA) has supported Vietnam in technology and finance, worth $ 250,000 to build the above-mentioned wastewater treatment system.
The Vietnamese side contributed VND 400 million for this project.
According to Dr. Nguyen The Dong, Director of the Institute of Environmental Technology (Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology), the system operates 24 hours a day, fully controlled automatically.
The above-mentioned wastewater treatment system receives and treats waste water from laboratories and experimental workshops as well as domestic wastewater in the Institute. Before being discharged to the outside, wastewater is treated by chemical methods combined with biology.

Due to the storage of some chemicals, heavy metals, wastewater from laboratories and experimental workshops is treated separately with chemicals such as flocculation (alum aluminum), polymer flocculation, sulfuric acid, etc. After that, this water source is mixed with the domestic wastewater source for microbial treatment.
After 4 months of trial operation, the analytical results show that the quality of waste water after being treated meets TCVN 5945-2005, meeting the requirements of the project.
Speaking at the inauguration of the wastewater treatment system in the afternoon of September 1, 2006, Dr. Yamamoto Mitsuhiro, representative of JICA, said: '' The station is a model to introduce to agencies and party organizations outside the Institute. Agencies and organizations can come to learn how to best treat wastewater '.
Mr. Mitsuhiro also wanted to cooperate with Vietnam Science and Technology Institute to build larger treatment stations in Vietnam in the future.
