The romantic name "kisspeptin" or "kiss hormone" comes from its role in turning girls into girls and boys into men. Kisspeptin is a protein encoded by the human KISS1 gene , a gene located on chromosome 1, which affects the brain, adrenal glands and pancreas. When a child is puberty, this hormone is an important catalyst in excreting other sex hormones. In addition, it also affects the birth process of women.

In the new study, the authors found that kisspeptin controlled both sex appeal and sexual desire . This hormone causes women to produce more attractive signals, and also make them more excitable and more desirable. According to US and UK statistics, up to 40% of women experience a period of decline in desire at least once in their lives.

The research has just been published in the scientific journal Nature Communications.
