Korea develops cancer treatment techniques with fluorescent diodes

KERI has successfully developed a technology that can attack cells containing melanoma and is in the process of technology transfer to a medical facility.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Korea Electronics Technology Research Institute (KERI) said the agency has successfully developed a type of technology that can attack cells containing malignant tumors and are in the process of public transfer technology for a medical facility.

Scientists working at a Korean national technology institute have successfully developed minimally invasive technology to diagnose and treat cancer using light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and laparoscopy techniques (internal laparoscopy

KERI has successfully developed minimal invasive technology to diagnose and treat cancer by using laparoscopy technology.

Currently, minimally invasive methods of diagnosis and treatment, for example, photodynamic therapy (PDT) and laparoscopy, have become a method to significantly improve the quality of life of cancer patients.

PDT is a treatment that uses drugs called generic photoreceptors that activate certain types of light to help treat cancer. It works because light only kills cancer cells and is absolutely safe for normal cells.

The technology invented by KERI is the development of the use of LED light to detect cancer cells, while using a type of PDT laser to treat cancer based on laparoscopic technology, scientists share.

'PDT treatment based on laparoscopic technology will be a new generation treatment that can have a major impact on the medical industry in general', said Dr. Bae Su-jin, a researcher. senior executive at KERI said.
