1,362 teenagers, with a median age of 14.6, at 5 high schools in China. These questions collect data on sleeping standards, sleep problems, smoking and drinking habits, behavior and emotions, stress in life .

The results showed that sleeping less than 8 hours / night, often nightmares and difficulty going to sleep, were highly related to drinking alcohol. Moreover, smoking is related to sleeping less than 8 hours, going to bed after midnight, nightmares, difficulty falling asleep, and difficulty maintaining sleep and using sleeping pills.

"These findings show important relationships between sleep quality and sleep disorders with smoking and drinking in Chinese teenagers ," Liu said.

A person's sleep time affects physical health, emotional comfort, mental abilities, output and performance, according to the study. Meanwhile, recent studies combine lack of sleep with serious health problems such as increased risk of depression, obesity, cardiovascular disease and diabetes.
