Listening to music from an MP3 player may be deaf

New research by scientists has shown that sound that is too loud from an MP3 player will unduly stimulate hair cells in the ear, causing temporary hearing loss. This happens for a long time, which can cause permanent hearing loss.

Research by Ghent University scientists was conducted with 60 people aged 19 to 28 about the influence of the habit of listening to music from MP3s with high volume by headphones to hearing loss. Participants will be divided into two groups.

The first group will be listening to pop and rock music from MP3 players, with many different volume levels in 1 hour. Meanwhile, the second group will not listen to music from an MP3 player.

Hearing tests were conducted before and after volunteers listened to music from MP3. The results showed that hearing ability of listeners for 1 hour was significantly reduced compared to the previous one and compared to those who did not listen to music from MP3 players.

"Sounds that cross levels can lead to hearing loss," said Dr. Hannah Kempler, who led the study. "Specifically, sounds that are too loud can alter the structure of the hearing . " organ in the inner ear, like auditory cells or hair cells'.

Therefore, Dr. Hannah Kempler recommends that we limit listening to music from music devices such as MP3s and think that further research is needed on the long-term effects of these devices on hearing of those user.

In a recent survey, the European Commission (EC) has reported that the number of people in their 30s using headset devices will increase by 10% over the next decade. Most of these devices are used to listen to music from handheld devices such as MP3 or mobile phones.

The results of the survey also show that more than 90% of young people in Europe and the United States have used MP3 players for many hours / day at very high volumes (over 80 dB).

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), hearing sounds at this level for a long time can cause permanent deafness. Therefore, health experts recommend that you should only listen to MP3s for no more than 60 minutes and the volume should not exceed 60%.
