Many people die because of salt
British scientists have asked the United Nations to make recommendations "to cut down on global salt intake ", as a priority for human health.
According to the BBC , writing in the British Medical Journal , scientists at Warwick University and Liverpool said cutting 15% of salt intake could help save 8.5 million people across the planet over the next decade. This is also the most effective way to improve human health.
According to the researchers, there was " a direct, persistent relationship between salt intake and blood pressure ". High blood pressure then indirectly causes cardiovascular disease, stroke and kidney problems.
The report emphasized that salt reduction measures should be implemented without delay. If people do not volunteer to do that, the food industry needs to be forced to cut it.
The researchers also said the reason why people eat salt is because when they eat more salt, they feel less salty, and add salt until they have enough salinity. It is like a vicious circle that is hard to escape.
Professor Francisco Cappucio, one of the study authors, pointed out the success of the salt reduction program in Finland, Portugal and Japan, as evidenced by the reduction in blood pressure of program participants when reducing eat salty.
