Meet Dr. 8X to convince the Prime Minister to sponsor millions of dollars
Recognizing himself as a scientist to create joy and benefit the community, Dr. Nguyen Ba Hai affirmed that the support of the state budget would be better, but if not, he would still do it.
Dr. 8x persuaded the Prime Minister to invest in a mental eyeglasses project for people with disabilities
Those present at the meeting of the young scientists of Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung are probably impressed with the young Dr. Nguyen Ba Hai from Ho Chi Minh City University of Technical Education. HCM. The final speaker, but the speech of Hai is the speech that makes 'hot' the hall when the Prime Minister is most concerned.
When listening to TS Hai talking about the eyeglasses for the visually impaired called 'The Eye of God' that Hai is working on, the Prime Minister interrupted, asking Hai to talk more about this product. The interesting dialogue between the Prime Minister and his doctor, born in 1983, made the Prime Minister decide to support the entire project for producing 100 thousand eyeglasses.

In fact, not to the Prime Minister's meeting with the new 'famous' Nguyen Ba Hai scientists. From 4-5 years ago, Dr. 8X was widely known for science and technology projects aimed at the community such as 1 USD class project, glasses for the blind, coffee shop 1m 2 , .
I met Hai in the morning right after the meeting of the Prime Minister, when his name was heating up the front page of newspapers as a strange phenomenon, but still, his life was the same. Busy but always happy.
The conversation only lasted for a long time to eat a bowl of pho and drink two-thirds of coffee between the two of us constantly interrupted by phone calls. The caller congratulated, who suggested that he share the document, and also had a friend who made an appointment for Hai to chat.
Hai said that, for him, the joy, the joy in life is the most important and the science work is a way for him to have that joy. Hai admits to being a busy person, but he is the master of his time because he does not have to follow too many goals, projects, programs and budgets.
'I don't aim to do science at all costs. Because that would be very stressful, very stressful, ' Hai said. Therefore, with Hai, he did science for love, not pressure. ' It is not fun to do science but life is not good'.
Claiming to be a scientist because of his passion, because he wanted to be engaged, not to be rewarded, supported or a "new hire" , Hai said, he refused to work Thousands of dollars to do the job you like.
It is not important for Hai to get support from the State or not. Hai compared the State budget 'like a mother's milk bottle, smoking a lot of it will run out gradually'. Therefore, Hai does not wait for the State budget to do science.
Hai called his research groups 'board research team' and confirmed that, there was something sold to serve scientific research, he could sell. Until now, Hai and his wife and children still 'live by their parents' house.
Just like half of Steve Jobs
Hai said that the science with him is to do something beneficial to the community, to make life more beautiful.(Photo: Le Van).
Dr. 8X shared that, the science that he pursues is the science associated with human love, the science that puts humanity and humanity on the number one position. Hai wants to do something through science to benefit the community, how to make the community feel warmer.
'That's why I made products like eyeglasses for the blind, 1 dollar class or coffee machine for poor people to start their businesses , ' Hai said. Therefore, Hai said, he really liked Steve Jobs but only liked him half, "half-human technology " and not "half-human society" in him.
Talking about the idea of making the Eye of the Spirit for the blind, Hai said, when I was a student at the University of Technical Education in Ho Chi Minh City. Ho Chi Minh City, Hai is the vice-learning class in charge of science. At that time, Hai and his friends wanted to make tapes for the visually impaired, but not yet, Hai went to study abroad so Hai always felt like he still owed them.
When returning to study abroad, working at the school, Hai came up with the idea of making smart eyeglasses to help blind people avoid obstacles.'At first, I thought, why not treat blind people like robots on the Moon, they also walk around, also trying to avoid obstacles. So start working . '.
The eye of the first version of Hai weighs 20kg and costs more than 20 million. After 4 years, 9 versions, now the glasses are very compact with only 200 grams for 2 million VND. Over the past years, Hai and her non-profit company have also donated nearly 1,000 glasses to disadvantaged visually impaired people.
I asked him, if anything he did for the community, did free work like the Eye of the God, then the money would not support his wife and children, Hai said, he still went to teach at school, had a salary and that salary he had 'surplus' .
'When I only eat and do research, I don't spend all my time on the money,' Hai joked, saying that if he only works for money, he might get 2-3 million a month, but do what he likes. 2-3 million salary a month is fine. 'My job now says that to get rich and buy a house to buy a door, it is still good to live in,' Hai said.
Collaborate as much as possible
The persistent conversation of Dr. Nguyen Ba Hai with Viettel Group General Director Nguyen Manh Hung.(Photo: Le Van).
Asked Hai about the state of the country's science and technology, he said, perhaps the biggest barrier is the fact that the scientists and the ordering units, according to Hai, are businesses that are not connected to together.
Hai said that the fact that scientists do not create many products is due to the lack of initiative between the two sides. While businesses sometimes lose confidence with scientists, Vietnamese scientists have not actively approached businesses to present their ideas.
I believe what Hai said was what he was really thinking and thinking about. Because, I have seen firsthand how Hai actively seeks opportunities to connect and cooperate.
During the visit to Viettel and FPTSoftware in Hoa Lac High Tech Park in the afternoon of 9/11, Hai was the only one among 70 young scientists who actively talked on the sidelines with Viettel Group's CEO to share about ideas as well as cooperation opportunities.
Hai revealed to me that Viettel's General Director then decided to have a private meeting with him right in the afternoon of the next day. The exchange may not help Hai with a specific contract, however, it will certainly open to him many ideas and opportunities.
'Life must be proactive, do not wait, have to actively connect, to spread your hand, people can grasp it, but whoever holds the hand,' Hai said. 'People are afraid and afraid to lose ideas, they are not afraid. Cooperation as much as possible '.
In fact, science enthusiasts to the point of 'selling all' as Hai is not lacking. I have met many scientists who are not interested in anything but research. However, those who do science with a spirit of initiative, commitment and even recklessness with a clear goal like Hai do not really do much.
