Milky Way 'wrinkled by collision'
A few million years ago, Antlia moved through our galaxy, making the disk of 'wrinkled galaxies like a roofing sheet'.
Last year, astronomers discovered a dwarf galaxy, named Antia 2, near the Milky Way (130,000 years from the center of the Milky Way) .
Our Milky Way collided with Antlia 2 galaxy.
Now, they find that, as it turns out , this dwarf galaxy has collided with our galaxy and the impact of the collision has continued to this day.
Scientists at the University of Rochester (USA) have simulated past interactions between the Milky Way and the dwarf galaxy Antlia 2 . A few million years ago, Antlia moved through our galaxy, making the disk of 'wrinkled galaxies like a roofing sheet'.
It was the result of secondary gravitational impulses, which appeared after Antlia 2 left the Milky Way. What is remarkable is that 10 billion years ago, the Milky Way also collided with another dwarf galaxy, called Sausage.
