Lycopene in tomatoes helps prevent prostate cancer in men.
DailyMail reported that researchers believe that protecting against this disease is due to an important oxidation inside tomatoes called Lycopene .
Researchers from Bristol, Cambridge and Oxford University tested the diet and lifestyle of nearly 14,000 men between the ages of 50 and 69.
They found that compared to those who did not eat or eat less tomatoes, men who ate at least 10 servings of tomatoes each week had a 18% lower risk of prostate cancer.
A portion of tomato is equivalent to 150g of tomato with a glass of tomato juice or a portion of tomato pizza.
In addition, scientists also pointed out that eating at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables every day, the risk of cancer in men is also reduced by 24%.
The research leader, Vanessa Er of Bristol University, also said that to prevent male prostate cancer, 750-1,200mg of calcium and 105-200mcg selenium should be absorbed daily.
