Model of producing agricultural products with micro-organic fertilizer

In the buffer zone of Bach Ma National Park, Thua Thien-Hue, local people have been technically transferred from the project to build a model of producing agricultural products using micro-organic fertilizer.

The buffer forest area has about 65,000 people living; in which, ethnic minorities have more than 2,000 people spread out in the territory of Phu Loc, Phong Dien, A Luoi and Nam Dong districts.

In the past, most households in the buffer zone lived on illegal forest exploitation because there was little productive land; furthermore, the land can only cultivate one crop due to lack of water, so the productivity is low . The application of techniques to build agroforestry models has contributed to creating sustainable livelihoods for buffer zone communities.

According to Mr. Pham Quang Sanh - project coordinator, the technical transfer has helped local people to make micro-organic fertilizer on the spot from agricultural waste such as rice husk, manure, tree branches and grass. Microbial organic fertilizer helps to improve soil, limit chemical use, thus saving costs.

Production of agricultural products such as vegetables, rice, tubers and fruits from micro-organic fertilizer will create safe products and increase income. Thus, hundreds of households in the buffer zone of Phu Loc, Nam Dong and A Luoi districts have high and stable income from the production model of micro-organic fertilizer.

In addition, many households are also able to disseminate techniques to make improved cooking stoves, thus limiting access to forests to cut down trees for firewood; technical construction of biogas plants for farms and breeding farms; techniques of building models for growing mushrooms, bamboos to get bamboo shoots, fruit trees, improving mixed gardens, multi-purpose trees have also been highly effective .

Besides, the project is developing economic development models in combination with forest protection such as intercropping fruit trees and indigenous trees to improve mixed gardens for 450 households with an area of more than 80 ha; guiding techniques for planting nearly 900 ha of special-use forests, zoning off and regenerating natural forests for more than 3,000 ha.

The project also coordinated to build community-based ecotourism model such as Ecotourism Village in Ha Long village (Phong Dien); ecotourism combined with communities in Thac Mo, Thac Slide, Nha Rong - Thuong Nhat commune, medicinal garden collection in Nam Dong district . contribute to increase forest coverage rate; create more jobs, contribute to poverty reduction for communities in the buffer zone.

However, in order to develop effective agroforestry models in the buffer zone, the propaganda to improve people's knowledge of forest conservation needs to be improved in parallel with the organization of training courses. biodiversity conservation associated with the dissemination of techniques to develop agro-forestry models with high economic efficiency.
